The REIV is expecting around 2,200 auctions between now and Christmas, increasing the total number of auctions to around 28,800 this year.

As the clearance rate has been persistently in the 50s all year, the fact that the volume of auctions remains historically high is interesting, as other years with a similar level of demand saw some vendors choose to sell by private sale. In the 10 years prior to this one the average number of auctions held in a year was 26,338 – nine per cent less than this year. In only four of those years the volume was higher.
